GRP-based design solutions for mechanical engineering

There are plenty of applications for fibre composite materials in mechanical engineering. These range from the cover on a salt spray test unit to a housing for a pastillation belt and all the way through to cladding parts for construction machinery.  We also design load-bearing GRP components for your machines. We simply need to make sure that the benefits of fibre composite materials or composites are harnessed to the full to ensure that the solution also makes economic sense.

Fibre composite materials consist primarily of glass and resin, Neither of these rust.

We can design your component to make it weather- and UV-resistant.

Fibre composite components can be created in such a way that they are light yet able to withstand high mechanical loads. Let’s discuss your project.

We can select the resin formula for your application so that it is able to withstand specific chemicals under the defined general conditions. Talk to us!

Fibre composite materials have electrically isolating properties. Nevertheless, if necessary, carbon fibre composite materials or composites can be fitted in such a way that they can conduct electricity. This is because there’s not just one type of fibre composite material.

Sawing and grinding glass fibre reinforced plastic usually just causes dust that can be vacuumed up and cannot be breathed in. It does not result in any flying sparks.

Fibre composite profiles are light, with a density of approx. 1.95 g/cm³. A workman can easily carry a U-beam with a cross-section of 200 x 80 mm, a length of 6 m and wall thickness of 8 mm on his shoulder. Just try doing that will a steel beam!

You can create beautifully designed parts using fibre composite components. All sorts of features are possible, including cavities, undercuts, corrugation, radii, and much more. Give your creativity free rein and have a chat with us.

We also offer high-quality painted components like those seen inside and outside buses or trains. We have experience of creating products with textured or gloss paint, metallic paint, sanded surfaces, multicoloured logos on the component, and much else besides.

If you drop a fist-sized rock onto an approx. 3 mm-thick GRP panel from a height of 1 m, you’ll notice that the surface is scratched. Such an impact would not typically cause a dent, as the material returns to its original state.

Generally speaking, fibre composite materials do not contain any metal and are thus permeable to radio waves.

5-door housing

A 5-door GRP housing for a pastillation belt was designed and built here. Its surfaces are easy to clean and all of the system components are easily accessible via the many doors.

Electric crane platform

GRP designs meet requirements for high mechanical stability and are also resistant to many chemicals and corrosion. They do not conduct electricity and are easy to assemble. We are always delighted to work on special projects for our customers. The task here was to design a special GRP crane platform with a stainless steel crane unit. This was developed and built by TC and is used to raise battery packs by approx. 1 m. The complete crane platform can be rolled manually to the respective place of use.

Cover for a salt spray test facility

The original plexiglass cover of this salt spray test system needed to be replaced by a new, much sturdier cover. This was designed and manufactured by TC on the basis of GRP profiles and GRP sheet material.

Spray and touch protection

We have already designed and built an array of different spray protection systems for indoor and outdoor use at industrial plants on behalf of our customers. These traditionally consist of a load-bearing system made of weather-resistant GRP profiles and transparent, weather-resistant plastic panels. The spray protection system has already been enhanced with e.g. fastener frames for electric distributors, pipe supports, GRP cable bushing systems, GRP doors and ports and special openings for sample extraction. As the GRP spray protection systems for outdoor use are also exposed to high wind loads, we are happy to provide auditable static analysis from an independent structural engineering firm to confirm their stability.

Oscillating frame structure

In this project, TC created an oscillating, suspended double frame structure with hollow chambers for holding electrical components for a customer. The entire frame structure is free of metal. All of the components were glued together.
